Attendance- after 8.55 (gate closing) children must report to the office. This will constitute as a late mark.

If your child is unable to attend school due to illness, please contact school as soon as possible.

On the first day of absence please either:-

  • use the Parentmail ‘Absence Reporting Tool’

(Absence reporting will only work through the Parentmail App, so it’s important that you have downloaded the App onto your iPhone or Android device.)

Any dental/medical appointments should, if possible, be made after school hours or during the holidays.

Anyone wishing to take absence during term time will need to write a letter to the Headteacher explaining why. It will be the Headteacher’s decision as to whether this will be granted.  Requests for absence due to family holiday is not deemed an authorised absence.  Absence between 5-10 days must be decided by the Governing Body. Therefore, to avoid disappointment, we ask that you do not book your holiday until the absence has been approved.

If school is closed due to extreme weather conditions (such as heavy snow) a message will be posted on the homepage of the school website. Announcements are also made on BBC Radio Kent (96.7fm or DAB). The information should be available on the Radio Kent website.

Communication with school:

At St John’s Primary School, we value our close partnership with parents. The three-way link between home, school and the child is crucial to the child achieving their maximum potential. By working together, we can ensure a happy, successful primary school career. We value the support of parents and offer a range of activities and social activities to strengthen our partnership.

We use lots of different ways to communicate with parents, such as the newsletter. This is where you will find out lots of information about things which are happening at school, such as work the children have been doing, their achievements, special events, celebrations, dates for your diary and general information about the day-to-day life of the school. We also share leaflets and information on local issues and events. We also use Parentmail to send out notifications and information.

Our school website is a good place to find out more; information about day-to-day issues, future learning and forthcoming events can all be accessed here.

We value our meetings with parents. You will have opportunities to meet with your child's teacher formally on parent’s evenings. If you wish to speak to your child’s teacher during normal school times we ask that you do it at the end of the day after school pick-up, or arrange a meeting via the office if your teacher is not available.
