Day 2

Normandy Day 2
Day 2
Today was jam packed with activities. We visited Bayeux and went to see the tapestry. It was very impressive and a possible future project for sewing club?! We learned how the tapestry told the story of the fight for the throne between Harold and William culminating in the Battle of Hastings. This was useful for the people of the time because many could not read or write. We thought that this was a bit like a very early comic strip!
In Bayeux we perused the goods in the market and after much deliberation made our purchases. The children showed off their amazing language skills by asking for prices, saying thank you and even attempting a bit of haggling en Français!
We admired the architecture of the Bayeux Cathedral and made our way to the Bayeux War Cemetry which is the largest Commonwealth cemetry of WWII in France. The children looked at some of the graves to see if they could spot any family names.
Next we travelled to Arromanches to watch a very moving D-day film in a 360° cinema. We then cometed an audio tour as we walked through the museum learning about the exhibits.
The fun didn't stop in the evening with an Al fresco BBQ dinner and an afternoon dinner splash in the outdoor heated pool - just like a proper holiday!
