Year 3 Otter Class

Welcome to Year 3.

Whilst Year 3 marks the transition into Key Stage Two,  we build on the practise of EYFS and KS1, endeavouring to continue the culture of learning through hands-on experience and harnessing children’s natural curiosity.

Our year includes trips out and immersive days to bring our learning to life. During our Stone Age topic, we visit Knole Park to forage for berries and live like stone age people. On our Stone Age and Egyptian days, we create our own artefacts and immerse ourselves in the daily life of the time periods.

Year 3 sees an exciting milestone in reading. We guide children towards suitable reads by sharing appropriate and engaging texts together as a class, making sure that we make these series of books available in our class-book-corner. This way, the children are exposed to a range of texts and can sample some before trying for themselves. The children can also access the library and are given a colour coded book suitable for their reading age.

Our creative curriculum sees Year 3 children take up recorder in our music lessons; and engage in a varied and interactive Art and Design curriculum.
